Irvington is located five miles east of downtown Indianapolis. The neighborhood is situated on Washington Street, which is a National Scenic Byway. Irvington was the birthplace and home to the only historic art movement in Central Indiana. Today, many of the artists' homes and studios remain standing throughout the community. Irvington is a family-friendly neighborhood. Throughout the year, several festivals are held in the community that allow friends and neighbors to come together.

Irvington is both architecturally and culturally significant to Indianapolis. The area contains excellent examples of every major American architectural style from 1870–1950. However, Irvington is perhaps best known for its fine collection of Arts & Crafts architecture. Birch Bayh Federal Building and United States Courthouse, rededicated in 2003 to honor our late Senator Bayh. Bankruptcy Meetings and Hearings are conducted here for anyone living in Muncie down to Bloomington.

The Courthouse opened in 1905 in a Beaux Arts-style architecture. The building was designed by John Hall Rankin and Thomas Kellog from Rankin, Kellogg, & Crane operating out of the Philadelphia area. The Courthouse’s design inspired the other buildings in the area including the City Hall, Central Library, and the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza.
